French Château
In a litteral sense, a "Château" means a castle. In the world of French wines, it sometimes simply designates a wine domain or a wine producer.
If, in most regions, when the domain is called château, a castle is physically present on the domain, in Bordeaux, the term château simply refers to a wine producer. Some Bordeaux châteaux, although the names are famous, are sometimes no more than a mundane pavilion.

Château Petrus wines may be some of the most expensive wines produced in France, the "castle" itself is no more than a glorified hangar...
